The collection consists of a photostat of a letter in Elder's Journal from Rigdon in Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 13, 1837, to Don C. Smith. In it he describes his trip from Kintland, Ohio, the site of TerreHaute, land prices, the contrast of wealth and poverty, and his preference for settling a new country by organized colonization rather than by individual settlers.
